School Community Council (SCC)

School Community Council

School Community Councils (SCCs) improve educational programs and conditions at public schools. Councils operate using the shared governance approach: collaborative, site-based decision making to meet individual school improvement goals.

The Liberty SCC has responsibilities defined both by the Salt Lake City School District and the Utah Legislature.  Responsibilities are assisting in the development of School Improvement Plans (SIPs) and LAND Trust Plans, The Reading Achievement Plan, The Child Accessing Routing Plan and assist in development of the Professional Development Plan.  SCCs also work on issues brought forth by parents, staff, and faculty.

During the 2015-2016 school year, Liberty was awarded $29,504. The SCC devoted the LAND Trust funds to provide dance opportunities to our second, third, and fourth grade students. A Tanner Dance instructor provided classes and a performance each trimester for students and parents.

Funds were also used to enhance access to technology by purchasing additional computers in classrooms. Students were able to use computers for both research and written work. Teachers provided instruction to assist students in their ability to develop writing of opinion, persuasive and argumentative pieces.

School Community Council Meetings

The School Community Council meets monthly to discuss issues that will positively impact our students. Meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 3:00 p.m.  Your voice is important so please feel free to join any or all of our meetings.

Items that will be discussed monthly can be found on the School Community Council Timeline found on the district webpage. We also encourage members to introduce topics that are relevant to our community. Our meetings are very informal and follow procedures that recognize all viewpoints. When it becomes necessary to vote on an item we follow the procedure of one member putting forth an idea and another seconding the motion. Then all are heard with a support of yes or non support of no. We keep our discussions congenially and strive to consider all view points.
